FDA-Approved Laser Hair Removal Technology

Milesman Compact laser is the latest hair removal technology that is FDA approved and has a 95% satisfaction rate.

Thanks to there not being a “hot spot”, we manage to apply high energy, removing any discomfort from the treatment and adverse effects with our sapphire tip that attains up to -9°C. The Milesmen laser operates over all skin tones.

The new VCSEL technology distributes the energy homogeneously along the spot, eliminating the “hot spot” or “tack effect” that is a common feature in most previous technologies.

The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, long enough to heat up the hair and significantly destroy the follicle’s ability to re-grow.  This process also treats numerous hair follicles simultaneously.  It protects and cools the upper layer of the skin before, during and after each laser pulse while directing the laser energy to the hair root.

FAQ's

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Although laser hair removal results in a permanent reduction of hair growth in the treated area, it may not eradicate it entirely.

Various factors, such as medication or hormone changes, can cause new hair growth, but a simple touch-up treatment can help manage this.

Is laser hair removal safe during pregnancy?

Laser hair removal is unsuitable for women in the first trimester of pregnancy. Some clinics state that you can likely still continue your sessions during the second and third trimesters, provided you receive medical clearance to do so, however, we’re not so sure we agree with that fully.

During pregnancy, a woman’s body undergoes many hormonal surges, of which progesterone and estrogen levels increase and stimulate the melanocyte-stimulating hormone. It triggers your skin’s melanocyte cells to produce melanin, resulting in the darkening of some areas, and moles and freckles can become more pronounced. Luckily, it usually resolves post-partum. In addition to this, thanks to the increase in estrogen, hair may begin to grow more rapidly too.

Because there is not enough definitive research to confirm the safety of laser hair removal during pregnancy, we advise clients who fall pregnant to cease laser hair removal treatments, and wait until after they have given birth. We also believe women are more likely to see satisfactory results from laser hair removal, without the interference of hormonal surges that counteract what we are trying to achieve for them.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

It depends on a person’s pain tolerance and the area being treated. Some areas of the body may be more sensitive than others, such as the bikini area or upper lip. Lots of people describe the sensation as a rubber band snapping against the skin, while others say they barely feel anything at all.

It’s safe to say that while you may feel discomfort, it’s not unbearable. Plus, our practitioners will check in with you throughout the treatment to ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible and can adjust the settings accordingly.

Is laser hair removal safe?

Yes, laser hair removal is a thoroughly researched and safe treatment. However, there may be some minor side effects if the procedure is not performed properly, so it’s important to go to a reputable practitioner to get your treatment done.

Our skilled technicians at Shape Studio are extensively trained in performing laser hair removal treatments, so you can unwind and relax knowing that you’re in capable hands.

Is there anything I should avoid doing after laser hair removal?

In the 24 hours following treatment, avoid wearing tight clothing and doing anything that would result in excessive sweating.

Also avoid swimming, hot showers, and shaving the treated area to give your skin time to fully recover.

Can I get laser hair removal if I have a tattoo in the treatment area?

If the whole area is covered with a tattoo, then no, as the laser technology irritates tattoos and may damage them.

However, if you have a small tattoo in the treatment area, you absolutely can get laser hair removal, we will simply work around it and ensure that we cover up your tattoo with medical tape during the treatment.

Can I shave in between laser hair removal sessions?
Absolutely! You can shave in between laser hair removal sessions; however, you shouldn’t wax or pluck the hair in the treated area. The laser treatment works by targeting the pigment in the hair, but waxing or plucking removes the entire hair from the follicle, leaving no hair for the technology to effectively work on.
How many sessions are needed for laser hair removal?
Typically, people need six to eight sessions in order to remove the majority of the hair; however, this varies from person to person.
Does laser hair removal work on dark skin?
Not all lasers are suitable for dark skin, however, at Shape Studio we use the Milesman Diode Laser, which works effectively and safely on all skin types.
Does laser hair removal work on blonde hair?

Unfortunately, Laser hair removal does not work on blonde, gray, or red hair due to the absence of melanin in the follicle. Laser hair removal is most effective on dark hair, but if you’re unsure, you can book in for a free consultation with us to discuss your options.

How long does each laser hair removal session take?
A laser hair removal session usually takes anywhere from a few minutes to an hour depending on the size of the area being treated.
How does laser hair removal work?
The laser works by emitting light that converts into heat and is absorbed by the melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle, directly targeting and damaging the hair follicle, so it becomes harder and harder for the hair to regrow in that follicle as you attend more sessions.
Is laser hair removal worth it?

It really depends on your personal preferences and priorities. Laser hair removal can be a great option for people who are tired of constantly shaving, waxing, or plucking unwanted hair and who want a more long-term solution. It can also be a good choice if you have sensitive skin that reacts badly to other hair removal methods.

However, it is more expensive in the short-term. The good news is that at Shape Studio we offer a pay as you go option on package purchases, which means you receive all the package discounts and benefits without having to pay a lump sum at the start.

How much does laser hair removal cost?
It depends on the area being treated. We offer discounts on package options, so book online now or contact us today to learn more!
