Dermaplaning Tauranga

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning (also known as Epidermal Levelling) is a safe procedure that exfoliates the skin gently while also temporarily removing fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) from the face.

Using a special surgical grade blade and a delicate touch, we simply abrade the skin’s surface with light feathering strokes, removing the top dead skin cell layer and vellus hair, resulting in a brighter, more radiant complexion.

There is no pain or downtime with Dermaplaning, and the results are immediate.

Benefits of Dermaplaning

1. It helps reduce signs of aging

Dermaplaning actually stimulates the production of matrix proteins like collagen and elastin, which reduces the signs of ageing.

2. Makes Your Skincare Absorb Better

Your products will penetrate your skin much better now that all the dead skin has been removed. You’ll notice that you’re using less cream/serum/makeup and that it applies much more smoothly.

3. Helps Battle Acne

Dermaplaning not only gives you a glowing complexion, but it also helps with “hyperkeratosis,” a buildup of the top layer of skin that not only dulls your complexion but also contributes to acne.

4. Removes Peach Fuzz

Who doesn’t have random patches of ‘baby hair’? Because dermaplaning is essentially shaving down your face, you will lose both hair and dead skin cells. And no it doesn’t grow back thicker or darker!

5. Even Skin Tone

It not only improves the texture of your skin, but it also helps the colour of your skin appear more even—especially useful for hyperpigmentation!

How often should I get dermaplaning done?
The frequency of dermaplaning sessions depends on your skin type and needs. Typically, we recommend getting dermaplaning done every 4-6 weeks.
Are there any side effects of dermaplaning?
Some clients may experience short lived Redness and sensitivity due to the effects of the exfoliation.
Do I need to do anything after I have had dermaplaning?
We recommend that if you’re going to be touching your face, make sure your hands are clean, use a gentle cleanser on the day of treatment, avoid using any additional exfoliants for 1 week post treatment and definitely use sun protection every day!
Can I do dermaplaning at home?

While it is possible to perform dermaplaning at home, it is strongly advised to seek the services of a trained professional. Our technicians have been specifically trained to perform dermaplaning safely and effectively, using the appropriate tools and techniques to achieve optimal results.

Attempting dermaplaning at home carries a greater risk of injury or infection, and is generally not recommended. While the at-home blades tend to have guards on them to help prevent injury, they also do not achieve optimal results compared to those achieved with a surgical blade.

Is dermaplaning suitable for all skin types?

Dermaplaning is generally safe for most skin types, but it may not be suitable for those with active acne or other skin conditions. When you’re dealing with active acne, your skin is already inflamed and sensitive, so undergoing dermaplaning could worsen the situation and potentially spread the infection.

So it’s important to consult with a professional to determine if dermaplaning is the right treatment for your skin type.
